How would you like about a 3% reduction in the cost of outpatient care? A study, done by the University of Michigan, proves that the use of electronic health records can do just that.

The study was done to evaluate short-term cost savings from community-wide use of ambulatory electronic health records. The results showed, an estimated average of $5.14 in savings per patient per month for those utilizing electronic health records.

By using this technology in community practices, the study seemed to show a modestly slow cost growth.

With all of the changes coming to the healthcare industry, it may prompt clinicians to use electronic health records in ways that result in more substantial savings.
