Future’s So Bright, I Gotta Wear Shades
Earlier this month, Jeff Shavlik participated, as a judge, for the FBLA’s state leadership conference.
Head over to our website to hear about his time spent judging, what he took away from this experience and why it had him reaching for his shades!
Listing accounts online and information accuracy
Listing accounts online is convienent for many of our clients, and we like to make things convenient for our clients. However, just as important as being convenient, the information being entered must also be accurate.
The information that is entered online goes to the credit bureau. So, if an incorrect date of birth or social security number gets attached to a name, the credit bureau may attach the account to the wrong person which opens the doors for HIPAA issues, CFPB disputes and FCRA penalties. In addition, incorrect information reporting TOPS the list of biggest complaints reported by consumers!
Our office puts a lot of effort into trying to avoid these issues but sometimes all we have to go off of is what our clients provide. So, making sure the information being entered online is accurate should be of utmost importance.
What’s New Here?
CFPB to release proposed rule-making within next 90 days: In partnership with the Federal Trade Commission, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau is slated to release the Notice of Proposed Rule-making on debt collection in the next 90 days. Their intent with this is to address issues ranging from communication practices to consumer disclosures. We are anxiously awaiting this release and will pass along any pertinent information as it comes in.

Question from our inbox
“I received paperwork from a company asking us to send information to them to file a claim on someone we sent to collections who filed bankruptcy, what should I do?”
Answer: More than likely, this request is coming from a third party and not from the bankruptcy courts. If possible, we file proof of claims, on our clients’ behalf, as part of the services we offer. If you ever have any questions, please contact our office before sending anything in response to that type of letter.
